The Bradford Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Survivors Service are looking for a Sessional Girls Group Worker. 


Bradford Rape Crisis & SASS is a well-established charity operating in Bradford and the surrounding areas which offers a range of services to women and girls affected by sexual violence in a women and girls only environment.

The charity has been in existence for more than 35 years and has developed from a small, volunteer-led organisation to a multi-purpose, multi-service organisation employing 18 staff and delivering support to hundreds of women and girls each year.

Helpline: a woman who will listen, provide emotional support and useful information.

Counselling: free and confidential with no pre-set limits on the number of sessions, delivered at our Rape Crisis Centre and Bevan Healthcare.

Advocacy & Support: ISVA service providing support throughout the criminal justice system and a specialist service for refugee & asylum seeking women who have experienced sexual violence.

Jyoti services: specialist services for BAME women and girls delivered by BAME women including assessments, counselling, Helpline and shared support groups.

Shared support groups: on-going informal support groups building resilience and mutual support.

Girls Groups: For girls & young women aged 14-18 years old who are at risk of further exploitation, violence and abuse.

Courses: In Mindfulness & Self- esteem/Assertiveness.

Outreach to schools: weekly one to one emotional support sessions. 

Survivors Voice & engagement: supporting women and girls who have experienced sexual violence to have a voice & influence

Sexual Violence Prevention: delivering sexual violence prevention workshops (SELFIE) in schools, groups, workshops, events and other activities aimed at young people and the wider community.

Bradford Rape Crisis & SASS also works at a strategic level to improve the response to women and girl survivors of sexual violence locally, regionally and nationally.

The role

Bradford Rape Crisis & SASS are seeking a sessional worker to work with their group therapist to deliver an existing and long-term Thursday girl’s group based in Shipley. The group is for girls and young women aged 14 – 18 who are survivors of sexual violence, and is run using therapeutic group analytic principles. Girls attend the group every week during term times from 4.30 – 6.00pm.

Bradford Rape Crisis & SASS are looking for a woman who has experience working with girls and young women, preferably in a group setting, understands the reality and impact of sexual violence and working within a strong feminist framework. 

You will need to commit to being available every Thursday from 3.30pm to 7pm during school term times till the end of the 2018/19 academic year as a minimum and for monthly supervision (to be arranged).

Value and payment of this contract

The fee for each weekly Girls Group session is £87.50 inclusive of pre and post session work up to a maximum of £3,237.50 inclusive (to the end of 2018/19 academic year) dependent on start date.

The fees are the total available for the work. There will be no additional payments e.g. travel expenses, phone calls, etc. There will be no payments for annual leave, sickness or other absences. You will be responsible for payment of any tax (including VAT) or NI due to the Inland Revenue.

PLEASE NOTE: BRC & SASS offers services to women and girls who have experienced sexual violence within a women and girls only safe space.  It is an occupational requirement under the Equality Act 2010 (Schedule 9, part 1) for this work to be filled by a woman. 

Expression deadline and interview dates

The deadline for receipt of the Expression of Interest is 11am Monday 3rd September 2018. Interviews will be on Wednesday 5th Sept between 11am-2pm and Thursday 6th Sept between 5pm – 7.30pm.
