Safe spaces is a crisis support service in Bradford district and Craven led by Bradford District and Craven Mind and Cellar Trust. 

Who is Safe Spaces for?

Safe Spaces is for those in mental health distress, this could be severe anxiety or panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, intense depression or feelings of disassociation. Clients can refer into the service by calling First Response on 08001 884 884

Why should I volunteer?

If you have a passion for helping others or lived experiences with mental health then volunteering is a great way to build confidence and give back to your community. Volunteer your time and develop new skills, build friendships and improve your wellbeing.

Which volunteer roles are available?

You can volunteer in either of our hubs:

  • Bradford Hub: Bradford District and Craven Mind, Kenburgh House, Bradford
  • Keighley Hub: Central Hall, Keighley

 

Crisis Support Volunteer

What you’ll do:

You’ll be based at the Hubs in Bradford and Keighley, to support those in crisis. With the possibility of some outreach appointments in individual’s homes, supporting a trained Practitioner.

Including but not limited to:

  • Meeting and greeting individuals, waiting with and ensuring they leave safely after the hub
  • Completing registers, induction forms and feedback of attendees, as well as uploading to internal systems
  • Making drinks, seating individuals and ensuring they feel comfortable
  • Coordinating travel, booking taxis to and from hubs for individuals
  • 24 hour call-backs to individuals who have attended the session and updating records
  • Involvement in 2-1 sessions with another staff member
  • Confidently gathering information and supporting with safeguarding and incidents that occur at the hubs
  • Ad hoc administration that is required
  • Flexibility may be required around days/ times/ locations of the hubs or outreach appointments
  • Outreach – if required – ensuring the individual is comfortable in the appointment, introductions and making drinks

You’ll have:

  • Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Good administration skills and competent using word, excel and internal databases
  • The ability to work well under pressure and manage your own workload
  • Understanding of safeguarding, procedures and policies, boundaries and data protection/ confidentiality
  • An understanding of diversity, and the ability to incorporate diversity practices into all aspects of the work and interact with a range of different individuals
  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to Mind’s work, aims, values and purpose
  • Able to travel around Bradford and Craven for outreach appointments (if required)
