We are looking to recruit more volunteers for our befriending project, Community Companions.
Community Companions are trained volunteers who telephone over-55s to support their mental wellbeing and help them access local services. The project aims to improve the mental health of individuals aged 55 or over who are experiencing loneliness, social isolation or depression.
At this time, people are lonelier and more isolated than ever before. We are growing our services to reach demand, but we can’t do this without volunteer support. A friendly phone call for one hour per week can make all the difference.
One of our befriending volunteers said:
I have realised that I don’t have to be able to fix someone’s problems, that there is huge value in simply listening to what they have to say.
