South Asian Heritage Month seeks to commemorate, mark and celebrate South Asian cultures, histories and communities as well as understand the diverse heritage and cultures that continue to link the UK with South Asia.
Along with providing learning opportunities for others, the month enables people of South Asian heritage to reclaim their history and identity by sharing their own stories and experiences. We value celebrating different cultures, hearing different experiences and delving into history, and the chance to stand with and celebrate the South Asian communities of Bradford.
We understand there can be additional barriers to seeking mental health support for South Asian communities, such as language, differences in cultural norms and expectations and generational trauma. We want to better understand these and work to make our services accessible to all.
The organisers of the festival are thrilled to announce this year’s exciting programme that takes place from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 August. This year’s festival promises to be even more vibrant and exciting, featuring all your favourite BSAF activities and fantastic new additions. There’s something for everyone, from exhilarating singing and dancing performances to inspiring painting, crafting, and cooking workshops. As always, we’ve added a unique ‘desi zaara hatkey’ twist to make this year’s experience unforgettable! Find out more and book your tickets.
The team at Bradford District and Craven Mind have submitted their recommendations for South Asian books, films. TV, food and music. We’d also love to hear your suggestions, so please send any through to [email protected].
